Relevant Experience

An experienced team of life science and medical imaging personnel with over six decades of combined technology company experience lead Cubresa, which was founded in 2011 and was the first to commercialize silicon photomultiplier (SiPM) array technology for nuclear medical imaging applications. Cubresa is headquartered in Winnipeg, Manitoba.


James Schellenberg – Founder and CEO 

James Schellenberg, Founder and CEO, has participated in start-up technology companies from 1989 to the present. He has executive management experience with Broadband Networks Inc., Nortel Inc., Centara Corporation, James Schellenberg Inc. and most recently with IMRIS Inc. He has participated both as an investor and contributor for numerous technology based companies, including Texar Corporation, Edge Networks Inc., Esion Networks Inc., Photonami Inc. and iMagicTV.  James graduated with a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Manitoba in 1990 and has filed over 10 patents.

John Saunders – Chief Science Officer

Dr. John Saunders has over 40 years experience in the science and technology realm, in particular with MRI imaging technology. John was the founder and original CEO of IMRIS. He was one of the inventors of the original intraoperative MRI scanner and later served as CSO of IMRIS. He has over 200 peer-reviewed publications, as well as 6 granted US patents and 12 US patents pending.

Ryan Sparkes – R&D Director

Ryan Sparkes has worked in medical imaging and medical device software since 1996. At Cedara Software (now Merge Healthcare) Ryan worked on solutions for 3D volume rendering including segmentation and classification of different parts of the anatomy. At IMRIS he worked on their navigation and robotic product offerings. Ryan has a B. A. Sc. in Computer Engineering from the University of Waterloo.

Lisa Bako – Marketing Director

Lisa Bako, an entrepreneur and consultant, has been involved with high-tech companies since 1994. In addition to working with technology start-ups, Lisa has worked with national and international organizations focused on a variety of technology related initiatives including telecommunications, internet-based technologies and medical devices.
